FWIW, I was able to get EAP-TLS working on Froyo 2.2 on my Nexus One using
just the certificate and no pass phrase.
The trick is to import the Thawte root certificate using
http://www.realmb.com/2010/01/android-certificate-installer/ , then import
your VT-Wireless certificate, and set up the network to use both (and
EAP-TLS). I also entered my VT pid as 'Identity', though I'm not sure if
