Hi, Marissa-
We started an "Adopt a Book" preservation donation program.

Adopt a thesis? Great gift for a graduate from parents or grandparents.

Subject: Re: Creative Ways to Raise $ for Retro Digitization?
Hi Marissa,
If it's student work you're digitizing, I think the alumni approach is a good one. I think you'd have the greatest success, however, if the request for funding comes from the academic department, rather than the library.
Alumni seem to have stronger ties to their academic departments than to the library. Look for connections between the microfiched student work and academic departments, e.g., ask the computer science to fund digitizing computer science students' work. Try to find out the highest priorities for academic depts. in terms of outside funding, i.e., what projects are they asking donors to support? How can digitizing students' work help support those goals?
If you can get the department to see that connection, and maybe piggyback the digitization effort onto another larger project, then the dept. would be likely to support your project. But, if the digitization project is seen as "competing" with other funding needs of the dept., you're less likely to get the funding you need.
Best of luck,
Marty

Subject: Creative Ways to Raise $ for Retro Digitization?
Hello All --
Our library advancement officer is looking for creatives ways to ask
for funding from donors (like alumni) to sponsor retroactive
digitization of microfiched student work.
One of her ideas was to ask a donor to sponsor a number of years, an
area of study, etc. What methods have you used (or are aware of) to
raise donor funds for retroactive digitization? Any ideas?
Best,
Marisa
