Texas A&M does not require PDF/A, but the topic has been brought up for consideration.

I was planning on putting together all the NDLTD listserv responses to the original posting about image requirements, so as not to keep forwarding, but then this new thread came in and seemed very interesting to me.
At UNT, we have not required PDF/A because we ran into some problems with content. I was glad to hear PDF is an international standard now. What are other Texas institutions doing?
Thanks,
Jill

Subject: Re: Image Formats in ETD PDF Files
This issue has probably been debated in the past, but might be worth revisiting. Now that the PDF file format (version 1.7) is an international standard
(ISO 32000-1), is there any reason to continue to prefer PDF/A for archival purposes? If PDF/A is a stripped-down version of PDF, wouldn't it be better to employ the file format that supports a wider range of content?
Thanks for any insights,
Bill

If there's a strong need to provide TIFF images, we suggest the student submit these as separate files. We haven't set any restrictions on the use of JPG, GIF, or PNG formats, and I just want to make sure we're not missing something.
